Overall

Warning if you value your moving items.

Last June my mother hired Mayflower (owned by A1A Atlantic) as her moving company solely because of the Mayflower reputation. Though the quoted price price was much higher than the estimate of other companies, my mom decided to go with Mayflower because she was assured by Joni Elliott, the agent she worked with, that with a $50,000 dollars insurance, my mother had nothing to worry about. She was promised that the company would take care of any losses or damages incurred during the move. We put our complete trust in Mayflower and paid the bill.

On the day of the move, however, instead of a truck labeled " Mayflower", some truck with the insignia "A1A Atlantic" showed up! If that wasn't a jolt, but we were promptly assured that it was the SAME company. That should have been a red flag for me! That was when all the problems began.

The storage unit was not properly air conditioned because in the course of those few weeks, her furniture sustained quite a bit of damage.

Some of the small cabinets had to be re-glued together, one Mica cabinet was split at the base, my expensive lucite dining room table and coffee table reduced to pieces with chips and cracks all over.

My late stepfather was an antique Art collector and we had a very large unique jade piece, probably over 50 years old. This irreplaceable art work was shattered to pieces.......

Mayflower/A1A Atlantica refuses to pay even the minimum $3,500 that barely cover the repair of the two tables, despite the insurance purchased prior to the move. We are currently taking them to court over the matter.

Shame on your Mayflower/A1A Atlantic for taking advantage of senior citizens, especially one that recently went through a major cancer operation.

I'm spreading the word about this horrible company and welcome all to share this.

Overall
Horrible experience with this ...

Horrible experience with this company. I had another company move me in but couldn't remember who they were, so I called A1A because they are a Mayflower franchise and national brand. I figured they would be reasonable, professional, and boy was I wrong!

When I moved in, for a VERY similar move to moving out, I was charged about $375 and they completed the entire move in about 3 hours. On the phone, Alex - the owner of A1A told me 3 guys at $115/hour for 3 - 4 hours plus 1 hour drive time. This was clearly more expensive but ok, $500 - $600, no problem.

Alex shows up, very poor attitude from the start - hardly a hello, just rude. After 10 minutes, he tells me it's $1055 for the move - yeah, he doubled the price. He says he now needs 4 guys and 5 hours + 1 hour drive time and then charges me an extra $130 just to move a 47" flat panel TV and a mattress, then an extra $11 to unload the mattress and $44 for wardrobes... yeah, you can't make this stuff up. Aren't these pretty standard services? Moving a bed and TV?

No way! He was padding the job, what a rip off. His response was "That's my price" and didn't care when I was trying to talk to him about the pricing. He was dismissive and nasty, I couldn't believe it.

RUN, RUN, RUN far away from this company. They are bait and switch goons and if the owner is this nasty and rude, I couldn't imagine the rest of the staff.

I called around and found my original mover after a few hours. $425 FLAT FEE with free wardrobes, no problem with TV and mattresses, licensed and insured. Less than half of Alex and A-1-A's RIPOFF. If you are in the area and need to move, CALL AROUND. There are lots of great, reputable movers. I even found some that were $500 - $600 MAX but since I liked the original mover so much, I stuck with them.

CALL AROUND, but whatever you do, don't even bother calling these crooks.
