Incorporated in 1991, Biocoat is a company that acquires biomaterials technologies by funding scientific and applied research at academic research facilities. This is done through joint development projects with other companies and through cooperative research with academic researchers, as well as by licensing in patents. Its technology for immobilizing hyaluronan and other biopolymers has its origins at Columbia University in the early 1980 s. As a privately owned company, Biocoat does not manufacture and sell any medical devices itself. It develops practical applications of its technologies in partnership with established medical device companies, who license the technology from Biocoat. The company s personnel are made available on-site to assist during the installation and start-up of each process. Under the terms of its license agreements, Biocoat supplies coating solutions and reagents. It also provides technical service. Biocoat has an office in Fort Washington, Pa.
