Overall

I was having troubles with my well and I called Ensor Plumbing and asked if they worked on jet pumps. They assured me they did and asked for me to agree to a $79 diagnostic fee.

The very friendly service technician gathered some info and went to his van for a while and came back with an estimate of $1,404 that he verbally told me would get my water back on that day. It seemed steep but I had a weak moment and the promise of my water ways too tempting.

He got to work pulling the intake manifold/foot valve out of my well and a half an hour or so later tells me that he needs to replace the entire manifold and that will be additional cost of $1,300. He shows me the signed estimate and there it was in the fine print and grayed out. If the manifold needs to be replace it will be an additional $1,300.

Now thinking, I’ve done this before. It’s about $300 worth of parts and should take an experienced service person about an hour. There was no way I was paying another $1,300 so I declined. The $1,404 estimate was essentially the diagnostic fee.

So now my well internals are strung all around my back yard; my water situation is worse than when Ensor got there and I’m out $1,404. It’s off to the local plumbing store to get about $300 worth of fitting and an intake manifold. Three hours later I have water.

All told Ensor was at my house from around 10:30 – 1:30 on a normal Wednesday for a non-emergency visit. A large portion in the van pulling the well guts out takes me about 10-15 minutes and I’m not a professional.

Subtract $20 gas and no parts from the $1,404 and you get $1384. Add travel time to the 3 hours at the house to get 4 total hours and then divide to get $346 an hour. Seems a little high to me to not fix my water.

The contract that Ensor was very careful in writing and that I was not at all careful in reading does say “100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back”. I’m not holding my breath. A satisfied customer probably was never a very high priority.
